The authors address body piercing procedures, the experiences of high school students they've talked with as school nurses, the effects of the body piercing these students have experienced, and how school personnel can discuss health education around body piercing with their students.

The perceptions of tattooed and body-pierced youngsters being at-risk, sexually active, and exhibiting rebellion do not necessarily apply anymore. What adults might perceive as rebellion, for youth may be personal statements of self-identity and body art.
