Dr. Siegel and colleagues discuss their research comparing four ethnic-racial groups (African American, Asian American, Latino, and non-Hispanic White) to see if there is an impact of race-ethnicity on depressed mood, and whether gender differences in depressed mood are apparent within all race-ethnicity subgroups.

Approximately 5 percent of adolescents suffer from depression. Additionally, many youth suffer from significant impairment but don't meet the criteria for major depression.
