Abstract:
This article discusses the potential differential effects of parental alcohol versus drug abuse on the family environment, dyadic adjustment, and parent functioning, and how these differences, in turn, may be associated with development and adjustment differences of youth in these homes.

In addition, promising treatments that attend to the multigenerational impact of parental alcohol and drug abuse on adolescents are discussed.
