From the Inside: Yellowwood
By Carol Weiss Rubel, M.S.
The Prevention Researcher,
Volume 10, Number 5, 2003, Pages 8-9
Our annual feature, "From the Inside," is intended to share stories about working with youth in order to inspire others. In this year's installment, Carol Weiss Rubel, an educator in Pennsylvania, writes about her experience working with at-risk teens and creating "Yellowwood." Yellowwood is an alternative school for youth with no buildings, no faculty, and no athletic teams. It places youth with community partners four days a week for an active and legitimate service-learning experience. The fifth day is spent in a more formal academic setting.
