Abstract:

Research suggests that boys' exposure to child maltreatment and family violence can lead to negative sexual, reproductive, and parenting behaviors. However, because our society often reinforces the notion that young men should be able to protect themselves from harm and not talk about painful experiences, they are discouraged from disclosing their exposure to family violence and receiving the help they need. This article explores this relationship and offers important steps for intervention.
