Sexual minority youth are among those most likely to report suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts (suicidality). This article reviews suicidality risk factors among sexual minority youth, considering both those that are common to all youth as well as factors unique to these young people.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among our nation's adolescents. Additionally, nonlethal suicide attempts and suicide ideation increase the magnitude of this problem.
