Abstract:
School bullying has short and long term effects on its victims. Building on the characteristics of bullies, their victims, and the environment in which bullying occurs, this article explores both preventing school bullying as well as intervening once bullying has begun. Keeping youth engaged, eliminating environments where bullying can occur, and planning and developing anti-bullying policies are all methods of preventing school bullying. Interventions can include eliminating "bystanding," treating the bully, as well as treating the victim.
