Abstract:

Considerable effort has been expended during recent years to assess teachers' knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about reporting child maltreatment. However, little or no effort has been made to determine educators' awareness of the phenomenon of adolescent maltreatment, and little or no documented attempts made to familiarize teachers with the plight of maltreated adolescents. Using a survey given to 87 educators from 5 school districts, teachers' backgrounds, knowledge, and beliefs about child and adolescent maltreatment was assessed.
