Abstract:
Youth suicide prevention programs are described that promote the identification and referral of at risk youth, address risk factors, and promote protective factors. These include screening, gatekeeper training, school-based training for suicide response and prevention, psychotherapy, means restriction, media guidelines, and positive youth development program. Emphasis is on programs that are both effective and sustainable in applied settings. A comprehensive, systemic approach to youth suicide is proposed that combines each of these approaches through ongoing school-community collaboration and coordination.
