Abstract:
Eleven million children in the United States do not have health insurance and millions more are uninsured for part of the year. Additionally, 20% of America's children live in poverty which results in more numerous and frequent health problems. America also has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the developed world. School-based health centers can address these important public health problems. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, many school-based health centers are being downsized or eliminated. The reviewer, Linda Brice, finds The Politics of Youth, Sex, and Health Care in American Schools to be an informative, thought provoking, and dynamic book which champions the need and continued existence of these centers across the U.S.
