A normal part of adolescent development is sexual maturation. The early- and mid-teenage years are typically when youth begin having romantic relationships and begin considering engaging in sexual behavior. It is also during this time that teens begin expressing their lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered identities. Couple this with teens’ desire for more autonomy and decision-making opportunities, and those who live and work with youth have a challenging road ahead. This bundle seeks to provide professionals with the latest research on these important topics as well as information on how to guide teens in healthy sexual development and provide supportive environments.

This bundle of issues from The Prevention Researcher explores adolescent sexuality and relationships, including:
• Adolescent Sexual Attitudes and Behaviors, Vol. 16(4): providing an overview of adolescent sexual attitudes and behaviors; how practitioners can work with parents to promote healthy sexuality; the effects of the media on sexual attitudes; and how we can work with teens with moderate disabilities who often lack knowledge about sexual matters.
• Creating Supportive Environments for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth, Vol. 17(4): exploring how creating supportive homes, schools, and communities can help LGBT youth avoid risks, feel supported, and grow into healthy adulthood.
• Preventing Adolescent Dating Violence, Vol. 16(1): exploring adolescent dating violence by examining the peer context, as well as how youth seek help from others and give help to their friends.
• Sexual Violence in the Lives of Youth, Vol. 14(2): tackling sexual violence with two approaches – assisting those youth who have been victimized, and exploring avenues for preventing violence from happening in the first place.
