Adolescent sexuality and sexual behavior are normal aspects of human development as teens become increasingly interested in learning about and experimenting with their sexuality. However, most information regarding adolescent sexuality focuses on potential negative outcomes, such as pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. This issue steps back from these topics and broadens our perspective to look at sexuality as a whole.

We begin the issue with an overview of adolescent sexual attitudes and behaviors. Then we examine the influence parents have on these attitudes and behaviors and how practitioners can work with parents to promote healthy sexuality. In considering exterior influences on adolescents, we also explore the ways media, both traditional and new (digital), can affect sexual attitudes. Finally, we include in our discussion an often overlooked population: teens with moderate disabilities. We explore why they often lack knowledge about sexual matters, as well as how practitioners can help close this information gap.

The early- and mid-teenage years are typically when youth begin having romantic relationships and begin considering engaging in sexual behavior. It is also during this time that teens begin expressing their lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered identities. This bundle of issues from The Prevention Researcher explores adolescent relationships and sexuality by examining adolescent sexual attitudes and behaviors, supportive environments for LGBT youth, and assisting youth experiencing dating or sexual violence.
