Many youth are affected by violence, as perpatrators, as victims, or (often) as both. This Resource Issue complements our many recent issues on youth victimization by exploring how violence is interrelated. The goal of the issue is to explore how we might prevent violence by examining its precursors and by empowering the people who are affected by it. Throughout, we focus primarily on violence and aggression in relationships.
Articles in this issue examine:
- how dating aggression is impacted by both background and situational factors
- how coaches can discourage aggression-tolerant attitudes and teach their athletes about respecting women in an effort to decrease dating aggression and future domestic violence
- how maltreatment and witnessing domestic violence in families can be problematic for male youth who often do not get the support they need around these issues
- how adults can work toward preventing cyberbullying among youth
- how "restorative justice" can repair the harm caused by crime, reduce the risk of future harm, and empower communities to take an active role in the response to the crime.
Like all of our Resource Issues, this issue also contains a number of book reviews, an expanded web review section, and a subject index to our past 7 years of publication.
