#006 - Steps Parents Can Take To Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse: An Interview with Gina Hijjawi
A 2010 Monitoring the Future study reveals that 22% of high school seniors used prescription drugs non-medically at some point in their life, with 15% reporting having abused prescription drugs in the last year. Clearly, some prevention and intervention steps are needed to reduce this number.
In this interview, Gina Hijjawi, Ph.D. shares with us key steps parents can take to prevent their teens from abusing prescription drugs. In addition to sharing resources for parents to educate themselves, Dr. Hijjawi informs us of different ways parents can communicate with teens and ensure that prescription drugs are not easily accessible.
