#001 Bringing Safe School Training to Your Education Facility: An Interview with Kim Phillips-Knope
Providing educators and school staff with an understanding of issues facing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning youth is essential in creating a safe school environment for LGBTQ students -- and all students.
In this interview, Kim shares her extensive knowledge of school trainings. She answers important questions, such as how to prepare your school for a diversity training, how to share the information with the school community, whether or not youth should be involved in the training, and the core importance of creating a supportive environment for all youth.
Kim Phillips-Knope has been a consultant for the state of Michigan, conducting many trainings at schools and being highly involved in the safe school movement. She is currently the Director of Programs for Affirmations, a Detroit-based LGBT youth center. She also runs Edu-car-e Consulting, specializing in research, evaluation, and program development. Her areas of expertise include HIV prevention and education, as well as providing training for school systems on sexual minority youth.
