#003 - Coping with Terminal Illness: An Interview with Patricia Ellen
When a family is faced with terminal illness, a variety of emotions arise. Anxiety, fear, and sadness are just a few of these feelings. When an adolescent is affected by terminal illness, an already confusing time of life is made more complex.
In this interview, Patricia shares her vast knowledge from years of experience of working with families affected by terminal illness. We learn how adults can work with youth as they help them through this difficult time.
Patricia Ellen, M.A., is an educator, workshop leader, Certified Rubenfeld Synergist (integrating body, mind, spirit counseling modality), and Interfaith minister who has worked with children and families in a variety of settings for over 25 years. At the Center for Grieving Children in Portland Maine, she coordinates the Tender Living Care Program and is co-author of the book Living with Illness and Finding Hope. The TLC program offers peer support “Time of Change” groups, support to schools with an ill child or educator, and individual phone support. In addition she serves as Outreach Director at the Center presenting workshops to children, parents and professionals on supporting children through illness, grief and loss. She also serves as Abbess of the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine – a school for training interfaith chaplains.
